Access Online Therapy with an Independent Clinical Psychologist Through Your Health Insurance

If you have private medical insurance, you may be able to access psychological therapy without paying privately for your treatment.

I am an independent HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist based in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, and am able to provide online therapy to adults throughout the UK. I am recognised by a number of leading private medical insurers, including Bupa, Aviva, WPA, AXA Health, Allianz and Vitality, allowing eligible clients to use their insurance to access evidence-based psychological therapy.

Whether you have recently been referred by your GP, have contacted your insurer directly, or are searching for a recognised Clinical Psychologist who provides therapy, this page explains how the process works and answers the questions people most commonly ask.

Which Private Medical Insurers Do You Work With?

I currently accept referrals from clients insured with:

  • Bupa
  • Aviva
  • WPA
  • AXA Health
  • Allianz
  • Vitality

If your insurer is not listed, please get in touch before booking. Depending on your policy and insurer, there may still be options available.

Looking for a Bupa Clinical Psychologist?

If you are insured with Bupa, your policy may include cover for psychological therapy with a recognised Clinical Psychologist.

Before arranging your first appointment, Bupa will usually ask you to contact them to confirm your cover. They will advise whether a GP referral is required and, once approved, provide an authorisation number for treatment.

Once you have your authorisation details, arranging an appointment is straightforward. I am able to offer therapy securely online, allowing you the option to access support from home without travelling to a clinic. Online therapy also allows you to attend appointments wherever you are in the UK while receiving the same high standard of evidence-based psychological care.

Looking for an Aviva Clinical Psychologist?

If you have Aviva private medical insurance, psychological therapy may be included within your policy.

Find out more

Aviva will explain any referral requirements, confirm your level of cover and provide any authorisation needed before treatment begins. Once these details are available, we can arrange your initial assessment and begin therapy online at a convenient time.

If you are searching for an Aviva Clinical Psychologist or Aviva online therapy, my aim is to make the process as simple and transparent as possible so that you can focus on beginning therapy rather than navigating administration.

Looking for a WPA Clinical Psychologist?

Many WPA members are able to access psychological therapy through their health insurance, depending on the level of cover included within their policy.

Before booking your first appointment, WPA can confirm whether treatment is covered and explain any referral or authorisation requirements.

If you are looking for a WPA Clinical Psychologist or WPA online therapy, I will guide you through the practical steps before your first appointment.

Why Choose an Independent Clinical Psychologist?

Choosing the right psychologist is an important decision.

Clinical Psychologists undertake extensive postgraduate training in psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based therapy. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, treatment is tailored to your individual experiences, goals and circumstances.

As an independent practitioner, I provide therapy personally from your first appointment onwards. You will not be passed between clinicians or receive therapy through a large organisation. Instead, we work together throughout the therapeutic process, developing an approach that is appropriate for your individual needs.

Why I Offer Online Therapy

Over recent years, online psychological therapy has become an established and effective way of delivering evidence-based treatment for common mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety and stress. Working online offers practical benefits that many clients value:

  • no travel time
  • appointments from the comfort of your own home
  • easier to fit around work and family commitments
  • access to specialist therapy wherever you live in the UK
  • continuity if you move home or travel.

Many clients tell me that after the first few minutes they stop thinking about the technology altogether and simply experience the session as therapy.

What Can Therapy Help With?

I provide therapy for adults experiencing difficulties including:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • stress and burnout
  • excessive worry
  • panic symptoms
  • low self-esteem
  • emotional adjustment to life changes
  • work-related stress.

Treatment is collaborative, evidence-based and tailored to your individual needs rather than following a standard programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance pay for all of my therapy?

This depends on your individual policy. Some insurers authorise an initial number of sessions before reviewing whether further treatment is clinically appropriate. Other policies have a fixed financial limit for your treatment.

Do I need a GP referral?

Some insurers require a GP referral before authorising therapy, while others have different referral pathways. Your insurer will explain exactly what is required under your policy.

Can I continue therapy if my insurance sessions end?

Yes. If you wish to continue therapy after your authorised sessions have finished, it is usually possible to self-fund ongoing appointments.

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face therapy?

A substantial body of research has shown that online therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy for many common mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression and stress.
